Image Description: Pictures of the PFI works and lanterns in the general area. 24/2/2011

IMAGE 7

Images 1 and 2: Holophane Vista Grande lanterns at the rail station car park, with adaptors fitted.
3: the very last phillips XGS201 is being disconnected, by a workman in an excavation hole alongside. Note the position of the Phillips Residium next to it.
4: this time last week, only 3 new columns were working. today, they're all working and all the old ones are gone - sadly.
5, 6, 7: the only top entry mercury in the whole of Leeds. Originally, the owners of this property were installers of street furniture - hence the short column and streetlight on their land. This can still be seen in Streetview, as it's opposite the railway viaduct just before the westbound trains stop for Pudsey station (Junction of Town Street and Spring Valley) here.
8, 9, 10: Old Road, Stanningley, is being PFI'd. The old columns have had the ends cuts off and the lanterns are gone (previously Phillips MA50's), new columns are in and working - and only 3 old columns remain to be removed.... in a back street, new and old columns are still side by side
11: three lighting generations, all in height order! The PFI will see the old concrete column in the middle with phillips MI26 removed... but on the right is a far older cast iron gas column still with gas valve and mounting frog for a gas lantern in place.
12: closer look at that cast iron gas column
13: the final new column with phillips residium is being lifted back into place after the operative rotated the lantern to face the way it should have been put by the installers!
14: the new column is locked into place - the old columns had their security bolts removed.
15: a forest of columns! the Vista Grande, Residium, and the Phillips XGS201/MI70 - the MI70 being directly overseen by a CCTV camera.
