Image Description: for many years, Dame Judi Dench Walk has been lit by Thorn Gamma 6's running SON lamps. However, of recent months, one column was replaced and the new column had a swan neck and Urbis Opalo fitted, whilst another Gamma 6 exploded. Now though the whole set of lanterns that run beside the Museum Gardens up to the end of Marygate have been replaced by 'windsor' style heritage lanterns (either Urbis Abbey's or DW Windsor Windsor's). The strange angular fitting below the lantern is a connection box: being beside the river, which often floods, the bases of these columns are empty and the fused cutout is kept in a high-level box at the top of the column. All riverside installations are fed from a feeder pillar at a location safe from flooding, and the cable runs in and out from cutout to cutout.

The column in image 3 is a recent replacement, and had an Opalo fitted on a swan neck... this was fitted for a few months and wasn't working. It was finally working about 2 weeks ago and now it has been replaced. Hopefully the lantern will be redeployed elsewhere.
Image 5 shows the lanterns have generally been fitted onto existing columns... so we have the odd setup of shiny new well-finished lanterns and flakey-painted columns.

Images 6,7, and 8 show the final lantern in this stretch of lighting. Originally, this had a swan neck bracket and a top entry 1980's Thorn Beta 5 fitted. This was replaced about 2-3 years ago with a Holophane QSM, which was later vandalised and so was replaced by an Opalo, which was also vandalised and so after a while was replaced by a QSS... the QSS has not been lit for a while (no evident signs of vandalism) and has been taken down. The swan neck has been removed and one of the SON Gamma 6's from the walkway has been redeployed here - should be interesting to see how well it lights the pathway! The reason this installations suffers from vandalism is because there is a low wall to one side, and so local chavs climb it and either flip open the control box at one end of the higher section of wall, or climb up the higher wall and smash the lantern.
