Imagename: Fallen wood pole on Hob Moor, Acomb
Image Description: Hob Moor is a local nature reserve, and has several paths zig-zagging across it - but the general movement of people using the paths is between Tadcaster Road and Tudor Road or Gale Lane in Acomb, passing under the East Coast Main Line by means of a subway. Between Tadcaster Road and the railway is a stratch of grassy areas with a forked path, and both paths going off from that are lit: one by standard columns and the other by lanterns on pole brackets on an overhead supply.
The pictures here show what happens when one of the wood poles has rotted. The pole has fell backward, which on impact has then damaged the control box for whatever lantern had been installed beyond repair. The two metal clips that held the overhead supply lines in place are still in place, so I believe these just pinched the wires at top and bottom (as opposed to bolting the cables in place - which if that had been the case, the fall would have brought the wires down too). I do not know if a lantern had been on the pole when it fell, but the mounting plate of a bracket is still in place.
