I think it is a Phllips MA90. I suspect it will have originally been holding an open lantern, like the next one along, but the column bracket has been cut back a bit too far!
This is on streetview if you search for The Strand, Rochdale. it's like a giant roundabout with a single bus stop on it.

Out of interest, what lantern is that in the very background (the one that looks like another MA lantern) with an uptilt?

Another area I remember quite well. I actually like the look of the ZX4s (slightly different from the norm) though the uptilt is slightly random.

I remember this stretch very well, it's the way we go when visiting family in Kent. I can always remember from a young age these particular MA60s (and the GEC Bricks, which have been recently replaced). Shame that they will be going, and it's quite surprising how they've fared over the years. With only a handful missing their bowls!

These MA60s look to be in a bit of trouble as this section of the M25 between J28 and 29 is being widened. A counterflow is already in operation, and the work is due to be completed in summer 2011, so I feel that these MA60s' days are numbered and will probably be replaced with Sapphires, as that's what other stretches have had their MA60s replaced with in such schemes in the last few years. The GEC Bricks along by Stapleford Airfield between J27 and 28, according to Alex, have recently been replaced by Sapphires, so that's what made me guess it will be Sapphires which will be lighting this section from next year.

These are the new ZX4s which were installed on the A12 slip road during the A12/M25 junction upgrade in 2008. Notice how the lanterns have strangely been tilted at a slight angle upwards. I'm unsure what they replaced, but it would probably either be MAs or some 2004-installed Arcs, as the opposite slip road is lit wityh MAs and the A12 just south of the junction is lit with the Arcs.

I thought I'd better photograph these before they disappear (if they do disappear), as this junction was upgraded with new lighting in parts in 2008 and there are carriageway widening works happening on the M25 nearby, so I fear that these MAs won't be here for much longer.

Outside the Big Yellow Self Storage Unit on the A12 Colchester Road is a double-bracket installation bearing two Z9554s, which, judging by their colour, also date back to the 70s. I'm unsure if they're owned by Havering council or privately owned.

Gants Hill has been receiving a complete facelift since December 2009, which has involved some of the streetlighting being replaced. The most unusual lighting installed as part of the regeneration scheme are these high-mast installations which have been installed at each exit of the roundabout, replacing WRTL SR200s which were installed around the edge of the roundabout and which were only installed around 1997 (one can be seen at the extreme left of the image). There are only three lanterns per column (most high-mast installations I've seen have 5 or more lanterns per column) and the lanterns are not specialist high-mast lanterns but look to be Woodhouse Discs. Unfortunately, they run SON (I was rather hoping they would run metal halide in order to be more eco-friendly), but I suppose TfL have already made a bit of an effort to save energy by only installing three lanterns per column. In the background on the Woodford Avenue, post-top iridiums were installed in March when the road's central reservation was reconstructed. These replaced ZX2s on 1970s Fabrikat columns, which held GEC Z9564s until the late 90s. On the A12 Eastern Avenue coming from Newbury Park (out of shot to the left), the final 5 double-bracket SR200 installations before the roundabout were replaced with Iridiums on double-bracket Stainton columns. The same has also happened on the A12 coming from Redbridge, only the Iridiums replaced ZX3s instead of SR200s. What amazes me is that all the outgoing lighting was only around 10 years old, so it still had lots of life left in it, and yet it has already been replaced with more SON lanterns. But I guess that while Gants Hill is being regenerated, TfL may as well kill two birds with one stone and replace the lighting as well!

Those gantries and power lines are the overhead supply for trains running on the East Coast Main Line. The railway passes right next to the 1970's area of Copmanthorpe - and so at night, the mercury streetlights act as a beacon to passengers on the train to indicate only another 5 minutes left on the train until York station.

This old Eleco top entry still has a 2 pin BC lampholder inside, and has been unused for decades. The control box still has a decent Venner timeswitch inside.

In June 2010, a new bracket and Thorn Jet suddenly appeared above the abandoned installation.
