Great to see a new website!

One superb find is this crescent bracket on what I think is a CU Byway column with an Eleco HW747-12. Sadly its condition is poor.

That looks very similar to my ELECO HW932; Simon Cornwell's website portrays the HW747-12 to have a slightly deeper bowl compared with the lantern pictured on EdinburghStreetLamps.

To be honest it could be either. They are very similar with the HW747 and HW932 being less than an inch difference in length, with as you say the HW932 having the slightly shallower bowl. It is very difficult to tell the 2 apart. On Simon's catalogues the HW747 is shorter on the screen despite it being the longer lantern and of course the Edinburgh one has a cloudy bowl and is pictured from below making comparisions tricky.

As I am (or was, now most have gone) so used to seeing cloudy bowl HW932s, I am thinking that is what the lantern is in Edinburgh. I see what you mean about the HW747 appearing shorter by image but having longer dimensions; however the bowl on the Edinburgh example seems to be the same depth, visually, as a HW932.

Anyway, best we'll best not drift off-topic!

Reference Section - Alpha 8

I've linked both the 1978 and 2002 catalogues from Mike Barford's website onto the Alpha 8 factfile.
