Dear members,

UKASTLE is continuously developing and as such I felt it was time for UKASTLE to open a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/ukastle

Our Twitter account is primarily used to re-tweet interesting content related to street lighting; pictures, news articles and product releases are among some of the Tweets. Make sure you look at our 'Favourites' - some great images on there! Obviously you don't have to have a Twitter account to access the page, nor do you have to commit to following us. However, the account will hopefully stimulate further discussion and act as a complementary source of information.

UKASTLE is also committed to keeping up to date with the latest news and product released from manufacturers. Therefore our account follows various manufacturers, which can be found under 'following'.

If you have any questions or queries relating to our Twitter account, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,
Alex

I think its great as we're moving with the times and keeping Ukastle fresh.

I do think that we could have a QR code for those with 'smartphones' who wish to access the site whist on the go. As I'm thinking of purchasing a Kindle, the site could be developed for that too.

I had been wondering about a QR code myself.... but there is an element of caution about which site to use to create the QR code, because if a dodgy site is used it can redirect to a malicious page and the end user won't know because they can't see the target address. Obviously if anybody else has used a site to generate QR codes and knows they're trustworthy then put a link up here and I'll take a look.......

BTW, if you don't have a Twitter account you can't access the 'favourites' section - I've tried.

That's true, although all our 'Favourites' have been re-tweeted so show up on the publicly viewable page anyway. Two of them include the makeshift Somalian street light and the large high-mast lantern that fell in front of a car!

... the "there I fixed it" somalian light:

I like this idea:

But I feel this is probably photoshopped:

I wonder how easy it is to integrate a Tweet feed into the website?

Heh Heh Heh, I thought that might crop up!

It can be done, as Yorkshire Coastliner have a twitter feed on their website. I'm thinking about putting the twitter logo as a link up on the top links, next to the 'flip state' "log in / user links" link.... but before a twitter feed can go up we'll need to think about how to integrate it into the current design without 'cluttering' up the page.

Yes that might work. I guess if we had a feed, the difficult question is where to put it?!

I think there are a few things to prioritise first though, such as changing "View Active Topics" to "View New Posts" in the flip state login and sorting out the index page bug when you click to view the last post of a given forum.
