Does anyone know the reason why an electrode may randomly flicker even when fully heated? My 55w lamp seems to have started doing it, lamp is only around 4-5 months old. Premature failure on the way perhaps? |

No real issue, some do and some don't. Its partly to do how stable the arc is behind the electrode and the amount of emissive material on it. I wouldn't worry about it. Some brand new lamps do it. |

Most of mine do it and i've noticed fluorescent tubes do it. I figured it's part of the natural aging process. |

A lot of the MA50s did it back home. Some even turned on, turned off, and turned on again about 5 minutes later, even if it was getting noticably darker. Some of the GR150s and MA60s flicker here. |

That turning off and turning on again may actually be due to a cell fault. I myself have seen it happening (where the lamp blinks on and off like a belisha beacon, and as the lamp warms up, the sequence of the ON and OFF gets more rapid until the lamp loses heat or the ignitor cannot sustain the lamp and switches off for a few minutes) and it seems to be a problem only with more modern electronic cells. Possibly cheap components inside maybe. |
