Have you come across the SLIders (street light interference) phenomenon? It's where various people claim streetlights either turn off as they walk under them - and relighting as they move away - or turn on in daylight, and off again as they move away. A book has recently been published on the phenomenon by Hillary Evans, and features as an article on the Fortean Times website: ... iders.html

It would seem it happens too frequently to some people to be dismissed as pure chance. If anyone aware that it's happened to them? I have to admit that it hasn't happened to me. With my interest in streetlighting, I'd probably be more aware of it than a non-enthusiast.

Hi Richard

Interesting you should post this as I was reading something similar only a couple of days ago and thinking it to be pure nonsense.  My wife told me yesterday though that the street light outside our house is on a sensor as it switched on when she walked past, to which I replied that they don't install them with sensors and it must just be faulty - which I'm 99.9% sure is the case!

I have had some go out when I walked under them and on again, but this is most likely just the lamp coming to the end of it's life.

I have also seen duff cells do odd things too, like randomly coming on in the day and then off again but this isn't paranormal or anything.

High Pressure Sodium lamps cycle towards the end of their life, and so one might turn off as somebody comes close to it at night, purely by coincidence, or it might have been off and cooled down a bit so it flicks back on as somebody walks under. Likewise, electronic cells can do some random things every now and then... I'd be a bit sceptical about it being something supernatural.
