From Relocation, Relocation, Relocation in Aylsham in Norfolk, what looks like a GEC Clearmain on a wall bracket and presumably still in use.

I knew that would appear on here! I was going to do a check on Streetview just in case it was there, but I doubt SV covers that area...

If that Clearmain is still in use I hope it's still mercury but what's the betting that it's SON (which always looks wrong coming out of old lanterns like these)?  :x

From Holiday On The Buses

This could be enough advance warning for some of you. Holiday On The Buses is about to be shown on ITV3 (a Freeview channel) at 5:25pm today. It was filmed in and around the Pontins Holiday Camp in Prestatyn, North Wales in 1973.

I don't think there is as much lighting in this film as the other two feature films (On The Buses and Mutiny On The Buses, which was shown on ITV3 yesterday afternoon), but it maybe worth a look as the plot revolves around the antics of a bus crew and was filmed in 1974, so old lighting is somewhat inevitable!

Happy Easter to everyone on UKASTLE!

Well, I guess ITV3 have run out of other stuff to screen tonight, because the 1971 On The Buses film is being broadcast tonight, straight after Holiday On The Buses finishes (7:15PM).

According to Wikipedia, it was largely filmed in Borehamwood (North West London). Just as the lovely old concretes you'll see in the film eventually aged and became obsolete, the sexism in this film also has, so my apologies in advance. The scenery though is pure nostalgia, and a reminder of life before 'health and safety' came along and roads were drowned in warning signs and markings.

Here is some of the street lighting in the film, as featured on this On The Buses tribute site (some images previously posted)

From "The Secret Life of the Airport" on BBC2, what looks like Revo Horizons on possibly CU twin bracket concretes.

Less reason to have cut off lanterns on the non air side of an airport. The Alpha 3s at LHR were "normal" versions for instance both in the terminal area and the approaches to the runway tunnel.

Some of the Alpha 3s had low profile fully clear bowls rather than the normal deeper white spot/refractor grooved bowls though.
