It took me a minute to realise what I was actually seeing! That has surely got to be the biggest wall bracket for a streetlight in the world... as even overseas they normally position lanterns closer to the walls, or use a catenary system.
I wish I had been there to see them (a) put it up, and (b) take it down several years later.

I've found this image of Petersfield railway station in Hampshire dated 1971 and what looks like a Revo C13428 "Festival".

The GSV image from June 2009, not surprisingly shows the lantern long gone, but also the Railway Hotel behind it. The twin peaks of the station roof are the only common reference points.

Alpha 1s in Andover, Hants circa 1965.

Alpha 1s in Amesbury, Wilts 1971.

What looks to be a Siemens fluorescent, Tidworth, Wilts 1971, although back then, the town was split, with south Tidworth being in Hampshire and North Tidworth being in Wilts.

King's Cross has recently undergone re-development work. I thought I'd link to a photo from 1988 of the frontage. We're not just interested in the SON lanterns here; have a look next to the stacked portable buildings and you'll see an old concrete column. Can anyone determine what the lantern is?

This is the view now with contemporary needle columns.

Zooming in, it looks like a SOX lantern possibly an Eleco.

The view of the trainshed will be much improved when in the next few months the dark "temporary" buildings (been there since 1974) with the words "Kings Cross" on will finally be swept away allowing the full view of the trainshed frontage designed by Lewis Cubitt to be seen once more.

The next photo in the Flikr series looks down by St Pancras and shows another old concrete too.

Ah yes, that was probably a better image for me to embed; it shows new steel columns supporting Alpha 8 Mk3s had been erected.

Those concrete columns aren't too uncommon for that area at the time - see the second post down on this page of the Column & Brackets thread.

Brighouse, Thornton Square. Judging by the lanterns - 1930's

Not much has changed, except for a solid 'teardrop' island being built and Stanton columns being installed.

This photo is only a year old
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gcbp/63407 ... 374100893/

... but would you say that's an XGS104 up on that finned Stanton? The location is Leyland Buisness Park, which is situated just north of the town beside the WCML. On a couple of journeys a few years ago I noticed big finned stanton columns with XGS104's on them but I could never pinpoint the location, all I knew was that is was somewhere close to Leyland Trucks and that the columns had a brick wall behind them.....

Two from the Blackpool tramway... first off is from the time of the OMO Cars (sometimes also nicknamed 'banana cars' because too much weight was put forward of the bogies and so the trams sagged at each end) - note the GEC ZD10547 Flying Saucers
