What a monster! What appears to be a quad Siemens Kuwait installation!

Good God!! That thing is huge... probably about 11-12ft diameter. Imagine having that in a collection, you'd have little room for anything else that couldn't slot around the Kuwait!

If they did that today, the columns and lanterns would either get stolen or vandalised. Or the exhibition could simply never happen because of "health and safety concerns" by gormless council jobsworths!

I wonder if they all came on at dusk?

If they did, that road would look awesome.

If they all lit up at night, then you'd have had a serious contender against Blackpool Illuminations!
It'd be a very cool street to live on though - and your car would be well lit up as well!

... And I guess that's exactly the reason why they wouldn't all switch on! However I agree it would make a spectacular light show especially with all the different light sources! Not to mention how brightly-lit the road would be, it would be amazing!  :D

I believe the exhibition that was held in Edinburgh did have at least some of the lanterns lit. Somewhere on the Yahoo group are some pictures although it was over a year since they were posted.

These pictures were taken at the APLE's exhibition (Association of Public Lighting Engineers, now the ILE) in Folkestone in 1955.

Every year they would meet up and many manufacturers would display their columns, brackets and lanterns as part of the "Outdoor Exhibition"

There was a discussion, and technical drawings, published in Public Lighting proposing that four-way Siemens Kuiwait for the lighting of roundabouts (it would be centrally mounted in the middle of the roundabout). I can't believe they actually made one!

All the best,
Simon

Ah, I knew you would know where that was!

4 way Kuwaits for roundabouts, how "impressive" would that look, the nearest we get to that now is a 3 way bracket with some Philips MAs on them, not quite in the same league..  ;)
