Lanterns, lamps and control gear are catered for in their own forums, but where do you post a picture like this? One of several column top fuse boxes, given a second-life as wood pole brackets in Toton, Nottinghamshire.

I've placed it in "General Street Lighting Discussion" for now, but I think we might have to look at creating a section for columns and brackets at some stage.

Hmm, reusing a column bracket on a wood pole, where have I seen that before phosco152? ;)

I've seen pole brackets reused when poles have been replaced in Crawley and Wilts although Claire's example is the other way round and its a column bracket. What were you thinking of?

Although not of that age, a village near me had all of their telegraph poles replaced but the same brackets and the same 1970s/80s/90s Beta 5s were re-installed, in different places! [and on different reused brackets]

Hmm, that is unusual given the utilities own the poles but not the lighting equipment so it normally goes back in the same place. I wonder if the council decided to change the positions at the same time?

Not too sure, I think they are relatively similar, though previously, brackets were all pretty much 5m, now they seem to range from about 6.5 meters to 3m! [And the 3m one has a deep bowl and a long bracket too]

I think all the lanterns were in brilliant condition, and there were no SON replacements on the through road, although Beta 79s and new post-top Iridiums can be seen as well now on side streets [the latter replacing concrete columns and Gamma 6s]

It's 'Worton' if you are interested.

Even where there is a PFI in full swing, installations owned by parish councils can be immune from the wholesale replacement program, retaining at their discretion, older lighting schemes if they so wish, but generally this comes at a cost that is often deemed prohibitive. There are one or two that survive in villages in Staffordshire.

I believe that for the south coast PFI (someone will correct me if I get this wrong.. ;) ) that the parish owned lighting is not included in the PFI, however in some cases the parishes are "opting in".

A bit like Slindon with referbs across the entier village parish, i think thats a better way of a PFI and not a mass instulation of new everything as the historic gets another chance to live.

I would love to live in a village and opt to maintain the lighting.

I'd do it for free just to keep them running!!!!!!
