Ever seen a lantern and thought - I can just about touch that!

Discuss and post pics of Lanterns that seem very low here!

There is one in Leeds, but I have never been able to do that long url you guys have where it can pinpoint the lantern when you click on it? Cos at the moment I can see it but the url box just says http://maps.google.com/ . A little help someone? Thanks.

Anyway, here's some streetlights you can touch. You can turn them on and off too if you know where to look/sit.

How about these under high voltage cables on the A1 Western Bypass Newcastle these low columns previously supported SRL8s on the slip road to the left and MRL6s in the central reservation on the main carrigeway.

Further along from the previous examples there is this strange installation again on a very short column but only a single installation but there are no cables or obstacles. As the installation in on a Viaduct crossing Blaydon industrial estate and the River Tyne it could be smaller to require a smaller base plate for structural reasons. In the past the Stella power stations were just slightly up river from here so it could be that this was a previous route of cables from these stations that were closed in the late 80's i believe.

Location: Salisbury
How about these under the approach path to the southern runway at Heathrow, or these in northern France.

Those French ones look vey closely spaced but that might just be the angle of the photo.

I know Thorn claim to have a lantern/floodlight that is supposed to be able to light a carriageway from just a few feet above road height. It is used on one of the toll roads in Spain under power lines, however I have never seen them used here yet.

Not to mention the line of what were GEC Bricks (changed in the last few years to Sapphire 1s) on the A40 at Northolt!

I take it you mean the Orus... and we've had them in York for a few years now (at least 4, possibly 5).... mentioned upthread:

Interesting topic- if you look closely the 2 adjoining columns on the A1 have overhead line warning sign on them at high level so there must have been a road crossing there years ago.
That Saph 1 installation on the A40 is amazing- what a shame the SOX went

Here's my offerings:
Some local ones by our airport- http://goo.gl/maps/goUh2
One low one on a cycle path- http://goo.gl/maps/1f2Yv This used to be an 80w Z8896 which had its lamp pinched on occasion
Yeovil's effort- http://goo.gl/maps/YKTwH This looks like it could be a winner  :D
