Hello again, I've been meaning to post this for a while! Not enough streetlights is bad, but too much is even worse. I've seen several cases of councils installing too many lanterns in the same area. I assume you have too!

Here's one for starters:

CLICKETH

There may not be much on first sight, but when you pan the veiw 360*, you can see the following:
Trafficvision
MRL6
MI26
Beta 2
SGS203
Z9533
Assorted globes
All I can say is "It must be a little hard to sleep there".

When I saw this thread I instantly thought of an area close to the AC Ford factory in Dudley, where there are street lights, floodlights and high masts. Move about the Street View link to get a good idea.

In Southampton, London Road has a street lighting overdose. The Woodhouse Geo Oval lanterns have since been replaced with WRTL Stela Wides for the road and WRTL Stela Longs for the footways. This road has four times as many columns as it did a few years ago when there were previously 250w metal halide Urbis ZX3s on 10m Fabrikat columns lighting the road, and there were no dedicated footway lanterns back then either. You couldn't call the road poorly lit back then, and without a doubt it is the brightest lit road in the city now. Consider a lot of shop fronts are lit up at night too. Before the radio frequency nodes were installed on the footway Stelas the lighting from the road Stelas was so bright that the footway lanterns didn't light up at night.

Brilliant! Now I've got somewhere I can post this:

There's a bit of overkill here in terms of lighting! There's two zebra crossings, one lit with Sapphires, the other Arcs and there's a double-bracket installation with two MK II Alpha 8s, which looks rather redundant now among all the zebra crossing lanterns! I believe, however, the Alpha 8s may soon be removed, if they haven't already, as the high street has had its installations replaced with Furyos.

On the A2 near Gravesend in Kent, there are these three double-bracket Trafficvision installations spaced extremely closely together. There is also a bit of overdose on the right - just look at all those Iridiums!

Finally, the lighting at the M11/M25 junction in Essex is rather excessive too! Double Iridiums and single Iridiums on the M11 mainline and columns on both sides of the M25 on-slip. The M25 mainline and slip roads are pretty overkill too, with a mix of Sapphires and Iridiums.

I think it's only that Streetfighter in the middle that's a bit excessive - the other columns are fine!

Nice topic. At Northway Roundabout in the last 5 years they've added 2 lanterns. This now looks overlit to me, just this section, not the whole roundabout.

Here's a little bit of an overdose in Maidstone in Kent. Looking at the length of the bracket I think the Iridiums' columns were the original ones but the road got realigned at some point and so the MA50 and Alpha 4's column were installed at a later stage when the realignment was complete.

Big overdose here in Portsmouth. Just look at all those different types of ZX3s!

Certainly a fair collection of columns there - is it because we are supposed to be a nation of dog lovers?

Anyway, if you swing the camera around, you'll see what appears to be some form of derelict industrial land. Checking GSV today indicates the land has been redeveloped for housing. Question is... did the four Alpha 3s survive?
