A lot of the modern heritage trash along Lee-on-Solent seafront in Hampshire has been damaged by the winds. The optic part of the lantern, which is the reflector, bowl and the disc these are attached to have fallen out of the canopy.

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Sheffield (as you can imagine) suffered quite badly from the winds.

A lot of Alpha 8s lost their bowls and ZX3s (unsurprisingly) lost their canopies.

I recently came across a GEC Z9480 that had been hit by nearby tree branches. The tree had snapped the Liverpool-type bracket clean off the column leaving the remaining bracket and lantern hanging by the cable. The hanging parts have since been removed and a new 6m column sporting a WRTL Arc stands awaiting a connection.

I also passed an Alpha 8 last week that had been flipped upside down on it's outreach bracket. I went past again this weekend and noticed it had been righted. Part of me is hoping that it was the wind which flipped it both upside down AND back to normal again but I have noticed that a lot of other out-of-line lanterns have been put right recently by Amey.

I've seen many lanterns tilt but never an Alpha8 most common lanterns to turn up here are Alpha 2000s, ZX12s and MRL6s others occasionally twist but these seem the biggest culprits.

I'm yet to see a ZX12 with a missing canopy, but I have seen this happen to the odd ZX2/3.

A couple of weekends ago I went for a walk around Alexandra Palace and noticed this heritage lantern had been damaged:

The lamp compartment seems to be strung from one of the ladder bars.

Speaking of high winds, check out this video from the M62.

Yes, that video was on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday morning and nearly choked on my breakfast laughing! It's almost as if they're dancing to the bloke's music!   Apparently, according to the comments, it's a phenomenon known as "vortex-shedding", where the frequency of the lamp posts matches the speed of the wind.

The winds we had recently up here caused this Arc to flip its lid:

It was like that for weeks, enduring rain, more wind (twisting it on the bracket) and even snow.

The council fixed it a few days ago, surprisingly by re-using the same lantern as the bowl is still full of water.
