The idea is that you get a picture of an area from many years ago and compare it to a picture taken now, simple.

Junction of Titchfield Road and Bridge Street 1978 and this is the same scene in  2009

I remember the days before those traffic lights were put in, circa 1994/5.

They are actually Phosco P224s. There are still a handful of these columns and lanterns elsewhere in Gosport unless they have very recently been replaced.

Then. Now.
Not much change apart from the Siemens flourescent lanterns have been removed when the columns were sleeved in 1960s with Atlas Alpha 3s. Some were replaced in the 1970s with Eleco GR150s and now everything has been replaced in the late 90s/ early 2000s with Albanies & wall mounted flood lights.

These buildings that were derelict in the 1950s here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/content/ ... 1.shtml?14 are still there, and still derelict to this day!

Those fluorescents where huge compared to their modern counterparts.

Couple of pictures from waterlooville the first is from 1955 and the second is from 2009.

I don't think they are in quite the same place but very close.

Well that beats York's White Swan Hotel in Piccadilly!!... all I know about the hotel is that throughout my living conscious I have never seen it occupied! The lower floor had a chip shop in it years ago, but the hotel hasn't been in use for well over 20 years, apart from when some squatters broke in and put up a peace sign in the main window.
