Hi all,
I am delighted to announce the release of my new "Soxtown" simulator which mimics the switching-on and warming-up of SOX streetlights from within an Excel file.

It is a free download and is available in .xls (Excel 2003) or .xlsm (Excel 2007, macro-enabled) format. Two types of streetlight are simulated - the GEC Z9454 (5 lamps) and the Thorn Beta 5 (15 lamps), making 20 lamps in total. Over a period of time you can watch the lamps switch on one by one and then warm up through their various colours from initial red at switch-on to yellow.

It is available at http://www.mattheweagles.co.uk/soxtown.htm. I've been working hard on this for the last several weeks, so I'm hoping it will be useful...

Best regards
Matthew Eagles

Hi Matthew,

I have downloaded it and I think it's great, well done. I love the way you have the warm up sequence. At lighting up time I used to love watching the SOX lanterns switching on. The simulation you have have created is great as it shows some coming on early so they are at full brightness by the time others are just switching on.

Regards,

Andrew.

Hi Alex & Andrew,
Thank you both for your replies - good to hear that Soxtown is sounding useful. Any questions, please ask; I'm making a point of logging in to this forum regularly to check. And good avatar photo, Andrew - looks like a Revo "Dalek" if I'm not mistaken? There were a few of those near me when I was growing up among the Beta 5s.
Best regards, Matthew.

Hi Matthew,

Yeah it is a Revo baby Dalek. They were the lantern of choice near me, there are still a handful of them in use.

Regards,

Andrew.

You're welcome. I can't see any SOX streetlights outside at night where I live so I will be using Soxtown myself ... or using the SOX lights I keep indoors :)
