M1 junction 15A ( Northampton) still has SOX
some of it still works.https://maps.app.goo.gl/aT7fUhVtotcZux9x9?g_st=ic
https://maps.app.goo.gl/YYvGkBVeURh5BkXp8?g_st=ic
A short stretch of SOX remains on M1 at Junction 23A
And most the most amazing thing was that nearly every lantern was working
today (31 August). I was not expecting it to be working at all.

Same thing could not be said about the LED between junctions 6A
& 11A. Where many lanterns were out,a few were flickering and some were turning on & off.

Well the MA60 at Worthing is still there, I had thought it had gone. Whether it still works is unknown.

Meanwhile on the A27 at Hove/Brighton, the SOX lighting has been partially replaced with a variety of SON and LED lanterns including some bracket surgery.

Looking west:

There has now been a further cull of the SOX at this location. The majority of the lighting is uniform twin LED lanterns on the cut back brackets. At the far west end, where the lighting starts/ends, there are still a couple of columns with the hybrid short LED/ long SOX brackets.

These are the last 2 intact original columns - dash cam images.

Oh, and the MA60 at Worthing is still there.

There is still an abundant amount of SOX remaining on the A13 in Essex.

If there are any enthusiasts close to East London / Essex, or anyone is passing close to the area, e.g. if using the Dartford Crossing, I would definitely recommend allowing a bit of extra time for your journey, heading off the M25 at Junction 30 and driving down to Tilbury Docks and back again. The MA60s start very close to Junction 30 and continue unbroken and almost unspoilt by casual replacements for the next five miles. It is definitely worth the extra 15 minutes on your journey (outside of rush hour times).

There is also a short run of MA60s on the central reservation of the M25 / A282 between Junctions 30 and 31, but I haven't seen them working for a long time. I think there are one or two more pairs of MA60s in the central reservation closer to Junction 31 and these do occasionally light up. There was also a well-maintained MA60-lit local road that weaves its way between the QEII Bridge and the exit of the eastern Dartford Tunnel, but these have just been replaced with SON-colour temperature LED fixtures. And there are plenty of well-maintained MA50s on many of the slip roads at Junctions 29, 30 and 31.

I visited the A13 / A1089 installation to take some photographs seven years ago and again a couple of weeks ago. Even seven years ago, 180W SOX installations were rare, and this location was probably the last-remaining decent-sized and well-maintained 180W SOX installation in the whole of Essex. Seven years later, this is perhaps the last-remaining decent-sized and well-maintained 180W SOX installation in the south east of England.

This installation, if it holds on for a few more years, will be cut in half when the Lower Thames Crossing reconfigures the 180W SOX-lit grade-separated Baker Street Interchange. But although the installation is very well-maintained and evidently still being re-lamped from time to time, it is still a throwback to a bygone age and it could suddenly disappear at any time. So I would encourage any enthusiasts to go and see it while you still can!
