There is still an abundant amount of SOX remaining on the A13 in Essex.

The MA60s start very close to Junction 30 and continue unbroken and almost unspoilt by casual replacements for the next five miles. It is definitely worth the extra 15 minutes on your journey (outside of rush hour times).
There is also a short run of MA60s on the central reservation of the M25 / A282 between Junctions 30 and 31, but I haven't seen them working for a long time. I think there are one or two more pairs of MA60s in the central reservation closer to Junction 31 and these do occasionally light up. There was also a well-maintained MA60-lit local road that weaves its way between the QEII Bridge and the exit of the eastern Dartford Tunnel, but these have just been replaced with SON-colour temperature LED fixtures. And there are plenty of well-maintained MA50s on many of the slip roads at Junctions 29, 30 and 31.
I visited the A13 / A1089 installation to take some photographs
seven years ago and
again a couple of weeks ago. Even seven years ago, 180W SOX installations were rare, and this location was probably the last-remaining decent-sized and well-maintained 180W SOX installation in the whole of Essex. Seven years later, this is perhaps the last-remaining decent-sized and well-maintained 180W SOX installation in the south east of England.
This installation, if it holds on for a few more years, will be cut in half when the Lower Thames Crossing reconfigures the 180W SOX-lit grade-separated Baker Street Interchange. But although the installation is very well-maintained and evidently still being re-lamped from time to time, it is still a throwback to a bygone age and it could suddenly disappear at any time. So I would encourage any enthusiasts to go and see it while you still can!
