Phosco P157 90W SOX and early Philips MA90 at a yard near Blyth Bridge, Stoke on Trent.

I'm wondering if those are actually an Eleco HW745 and a Philips MA50.

7 Mercury and 9 SON post tops at Cineworld, Isle of Wight.

In the village of Marton, Warwickshire is this Thorn Beta 4 on a delightful wall corner bracket.



A few miles down the road at Long Itchington are some Stanton 10 columns. They are fitted with Philips Mi55s/SNK70 the SON version of the Mi50. There are also some vintage pole mounts in the village with the same lanterns.

That GEC ZD815 is not the only old lighting to have been given a new lease of life with an LED lamp. This ZD815 in Woolston is also now lighting up with LED, as is this Thorn Gamma 3 and this Thorn Gamma 5. I'm sure I've not seen the Gamma 5 lit up in many years, so it's especially pleasing to see it returned to light.

This GEC ZD815 still lights up in mercury, the last in the city, whereas nearby these Gamma 5s still exist, though only the far one works.

A Thorn Alpha 3 and some Phosco P350 decorative post-top lanterns. The three lanterns in the StreetView image were day burning, with the Alpha 3 and smaller P350 burning SON, and the taller cone P350 burning ceramic metal halide.

I reckon there could be more survivors about in Bournemouth, but nice to see these.

Centurion Close, Islington (off Caledonian Road)

Top entry GEC Z9480 attached to a Concrete Utilities Arc 3 bracket and Estate Minor column. Still in nightly use on Thursday 22nd February 2024 but this lantern has been continuously dayburning since at least 2017. Opposite is a post top Philips Iridium which was put up a few years ago which I thought was going to replace the concrete column but both are still used nightly.

This is the last remaining lantern of its type in Islington which is still in use, it may only survive due to now being part of an estate road, but it was previously part of Ponder Street until the late 1970s. Only one other example exists on Richmond Grove beside Islington Town Hall attached to the same bracket and column but this has been derelict for years.

I have mentioned these columns in this thread before, but the Stewart & Lloyds columns in Harrogate, the exact ones that were pictured in their advertisements and catalogues dating back to 1953, are now being replaced.



These ones here in the town centre are being replaced now.  These columns have run LED, SON, MBF, Fluorescent, and likely some other kind of mercury lamp when new — which is very impressive for a steel column, rather than concrete or cast iron!  They are older than the train station behind them, that has been rebuilt in the past 70 years; and they are also older than the shopping centre on the other side of the street, which opened in 1991.  The brackets are now nearly as old as the columns, being around 60 years old from when the huge fluorescent tubes were installed.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/XcxxdCR4GC2swboc9?g_st=ic


The only other remaining S&L column is this one here on Leeds Road in the centre of the roundabout:

Sadly these now have LED retrofits.

Amersham Market Hall in Buckinghamshire has it's colonnade lit with GEC Z5590s complete with refractor rings.
