I spent a couple of days in the Chester area last week.
On my way back home, I came across some survivors from the past in quite surprising locations.
The final "cop" of the day was on Mill Lane, just outside Blacon. This was one of those third gear observations, having first of all noticed the Premier Inn which I was initially looking at staying at, followed by this relic which seems to be in their car park.
This is certainly a survivor from the past!Further to my original report posted back in September, I can now add some further photos of this remarkable survivor in Bache, near Upton, Chester.

The reason for being back in the Chester area, was that I was on my Honeymoon and very enjoyable it was too! It therefore made sense to re-visit this location, as the previous images were ripped off GSV.
This vintage column is interesting in many ways. I can now confirm that it is still substantially intact although obviously no longer in use. I have been trying to find out what was on the site before the Premier Inn was built, but no joy so far.
The column looks to be 1930s in origin. It is also sectional in construction, being in two parts connected via flanged joint.

The lamp bracket itself is fitted on top.

Thanks to Mr Cornwell's website (welcome back, Simon btw), it seems this relic was manufactured by REVO, with the ornate ironware being appropriately described as the "Cheshire Pillar Bracket".

The lantern is listed as a C6074 / Caerlleon. It would have burned high powered GLS lamps and still retains one in situ. The glassware is missing in places, although the bottom panes are intact but have accumulated a fair amount of vegetation over the years.

Hopefully, this superb piece of street furniture will hang on for a while yet.
