Heartbreaking news for the northerners.
The MA60'S on the A1 Doncaster are going. Already, new columns with lanterns have appeared at junction 38. The central reservation columns are still there for the moment. Don't know about the sox tunnel floods under the bridge but I would like to save one or two if anyone knows who to ask.Oh 'eck!
I once counted how many columns there were and made a rough estimate at how many MA's there were there... I cant remember the result though!. TBH the highways agency should be more concerned with bringing that bit of the A1 up to 3 lane motorway standard now as that bit between donny and ferrybridge is not pleasant.
As for obtaining stuff... you may be lucky, as there is a works unit just above the A1 as it snakes around doncaster... I can't remember between which junctions it is now, but as you go past you can see wood poles with floodlights attached and netting as fencing - with any luck, the old lanterns would be put in there for a few days after being taken down.
As for manchesters motorways, I too have noticed the outages. I don't even need to be on the M60 to see the lights that are out, just cycling along an overbridge gives a good enough view. And last year I was going to blackburn with mates and their parents along the M65(?) and I noticed the outages (although I didn't pay an awful lot of attention going both ways as I was too taken with the view westbound towards winter hill, where that big TV mast is that's lit up like a christmas tree at night, and the view beyond towards the coast)
