Well, not quite railway station lighting but railway depot lighting...I came across this image today whilst having a clear out:

Image

Note the tall cone post top lanterns.

Old Oak Common diesel depot in west London 17th July 1990. 47707 was the locomotive involved in the Polmont rail accident in 1984.

I believe the locomotive although withdrawn, hasn't yet been cut up although it may have been on the recent locomotive tender lists for sale by Deutsche Bahn - the "new owners" of EWS.

I very much doubt the lanterns still survive though...The lantern nearest the snow plough appears to have a slightly different canopy unless it is a trick of the light.

They look like Fluorescent lanterns, possibly something from the GEC ZD range of decorative flu's... but that one by the snowplough seems to have a canopy with a wider diameter than the others.

I have seen a fair few Stelas in use around Lancashire - and a particularly good one to see is one on the steps up to the bridge over the river Lune in Lancaster (this is actually a multiplex bridge because it's primary function is to carry the WCML over the river, the footpath is more-or-less a bolt-on function), the Stela in question being partway up the steps so you can get at a level with it and look sideways-on to see the lantern with part of the city behind.

You may never know but Northern Rail might start using Stellas at their stations which would be intresting.

that would be interesting... at least it'd be better than at stations like Pontefract Baghill where they have ZX3's on 2-3m tall columns!

Also I think they would look good at Whitley Bridge, Hensall, Snaith, Rawcliffe and possibly Goole. Same could go for Sherburn In Elmet, Ulleskelf, Haxby (when built) as well as the unstaffed stations along the Yorkshire Coast Line.

Actually I might suggest it to Northern.

Either that or use Residiums with the Fortimo LED system, as it gives off a slightly better light output than the Stela

At East Grinstead Bluebell station or how I put it 'Platform 3', has these they are a mixture of original and newly casted lanterns and columns.

Is the link correct? I'm getting a 'server not found' error being returned. Maybe just fotopic breaking down again like it does every now and then... sort of like it's 'period'!
