Hi all,

The L4135 ballasts I have aren't too bad for paint work. The red one looks like someone has painted over it?????? Not sure why lol.

Regards,

Andrew.

Hi all,

Here is a big Revo 180w ballast next to a Philips L4135 which can do both 135W SOX and 180w SOX. It's amazing the size difference.

Regards,

Andrew.

What kind of paint did you use? I have a mag ballast that rather badly needs repainting; most look like they've just been dipped in gloss?

It was a flexi grey primer that we used at work at the time, but I also had the GEC version of the L4135, (the Z1634P), that I used that domestic appliance white on, that give a good finish for white ballasts.

   , That REVO!!!!!, I`ve never seen a LPS leak so big!, don`t ever remember seeing anything this huge in use where I am!
The L4135 is 7KG, that REVO must be about 10!! :D

When the column was painted, the door was removed to prevent it being sealed shut with the paint. Those ballasts are big enough that the front is near to the "outside" of the door aperture. Lazy/poor painting with a brush/roller round the edge of the aperture has resulted in the ballast being painted as well.

Hi,

The Ballast is very heavy. I  once tried it to run my GR200.

Carlisle didn't use 180w SOX lanterns, the only place in Cumbria to my knowledge was in Barrow!.

Regards,

Andrew.

Anyone know if you can run a 131W Sox E lamp on 135w leak transformer?

Yes should be ok. 131W SOX E is the lower energy version of 180W SOX. However it needs to be run at 0.6A current to achieve the lower rating.

135/180W SOX both run at 0.9A and can use the same gear when run on leak transformers. Your SOX E lamp will work on that gear but will be effectively be running as 180W.

Thanks Phosco152, I have now found a GEC 135/180W Leak with a 15uF 440VAC cap. going to give it a try.
