Not quite, there is a Victorian cast iron column with a carbon arc lantern in Southampton that has listed status, and I doubt it is the only listed street lighting installation.

On the subject of historic lighting does anybody know anywhere else other than that example in Southampton where Carbon Arc lighting still exists?

I have a funny feeling about the repro gas lanterns in Leeds (up b'university). There are two signs, I got a snap of one, mentioning gas works - I hope this doesn't mean the end of these lanterns.

I did walk around the square taking snaps of three different Sugg repro gas lamps. One is / has been converted to mains the second one has been disconnected, the rest are still in working condition (one lass even asked me what I was doing. Turned around and said because of the gas works that are being done in a fortnight I do fear that these lanterns may be replaced or removed).

The photos are below (they will be put into the gallery ASAP).

There's some carbon-arc lighting still in use in Berlin, some of it is repro, but arc-lighting none the less.

If the works are for 4 weeks then I doubt it'll be purely to remove the lanterns.... if the lanterns are removed, then it'll be as part of a larger plan of works.

I'll check again in 6 weeks and if anything has changed, I'll post it here.

The ones in Horsham are AFAIK are somewhat out of action, as none of them, well when I went earlier this year, were lit.

So far the only repro gas lantern locations I know are Leeds and Horsham. I don't know if Chichester has any.

An alleyway in Leeds is fitted with Gas Lamps. Its leads down to The Swan pub.

Sadly no photo's because the SD Card isn't working properly.
