Hi all,
I would like to restore a GEC leak transformer to its former glory, but its missing its label. Does anyone have one with a label that they could photograph please front on so I can print/re-create one for mine? Its a 55 W transformer although it possibly doubles as 35 W. Have attached a pic here:

Also, does anyone know what value capacitor it needs?

Any help with these would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks, Chris

I have one in my GEC Nightwatch which I got from Classic Lamps. Sadly the lantern is in my storage unit but Mike Barford has an identical lantern:

I think an 8 Microfarad Capacitor should work but i'm not 100% on that.

I think either a 6 or an 8 Microfarad Capacitor should work.

I did check his site, but looks like he is missing labels on both his too. They must be prone to this and let in quite a bit of moisture.

Thanks for the capacitor info - the one inside has expanded a lot which I assume is down to some gas being created inside, so I don't dare to use it!

For 35/55W SOX on leak gear you need 15uF not 8uF. 6.5/8uF is the usual value for SOX ignitor gear.

Yeah, I was not 100% sure and I remember that my Beta 8 has a 15 Microfarad Capacitor in it.

Hi all,

I'm just trying out some 90W SOX tubes I recently got with some 90W SOX GEC gear. Does anyone know the date this ballast is from? I would guess 60s!

I love the old deep electrical hum you get from these old ballasts.

Definitely 60 :) , we had a small gear box on the wall at work with 3 of these exact ballasts inside it, they ran 3 GEC, Z9454s outside that maintenance somehow saw fit to run 55watt SOX in!!!
I wish now I would have fished it out of the skip when they took them down!
Nice collection piece.

Hi all,

Just been going through some photographs on my PC and found a pic of a G.E.C F16792 ballast for a Fluorescent tube. Not sure if this is the correct thread for fluorescent topic but it's such a nice pic I thought I would share it.

It is next to an F.8468 ballast which I'm guessing was from 1966 ish, the reason I say that is the cap which accompanied  it had 1966 stamped on it and the building it came from was built in 1967, so the F.16792 must be older ?

Regards,

Andrew.

Anyone got a nice clear picture of the GEC Z1634X ballast? The label on mine is missing and I would like to copy and print a new one so I know how to wire it. Thanks in advance
