Any idea what lamp it runs, it looks look 90W SOX? If you can confirm lamp type, I'll have a look at my pile of ballasts. |

According to streetlightonline it runs 135W SOX. Shame I can't read the lable on it the image is not clear. http://www.streetlightonline.co.uk/geclpsgear.htm I think its the same one as in the picture, the 90W one has more teminals on it than this one. |

From Mike B's photo: The ballast needs a series capacitor rated at 440Vac rather than the more common 250vac parallel type. Connect to terminals 2 & 5. Terminal 1 is on the left. Getting the right voltage rated capacitor maybe tricky. It looks like 12uF. N = terminal 2, for 220vac, L = terminal 3, for 240vac, L= terminal 4. Connect lamp to terminals 1 & (I think) 5. The only other possibility would be 1 & 2 (N), however, being a leak transformer, the neutral side of the lamp isn't normally connected to supply N. (It is however on ignitor ballasts). |

Thanks for the info I will give it a try. What I need though is a good photo of a surviving label so I can copy it. I’m trying as best I can to restore the ballast. I know what you mean about the Cap I think I will have difficulty getting the right one. Here’s a picture of what I'm trying to achieve, trouble is there is information missing. Induction motor capacitors are the best bet. You need a "run" type rather than "start". The former are continuously rated. |

Hi All, In this post viewtopic.php?f=7&t=61&start=260 I mentioned about the original open wound G.E.C ballast. I found one in my "Stash" it looks to be a Z1720. I would love the 140w version of this, I believe some collectors do have the higher wattage ballasts? Regards, Andrew.

Have a look for induction motor capacitors, use a "run" type as these are continuously rated. Should be fairly easy to find. |
