Yep, I spotted that and added another to the order. By my reckoning there's just two left for sale now. Will they be hurriedly snapped up, or will the last two make it unsold into another decade?

And then they were gone!

So it's goodbye for ever to the 140w SLI lamp. They did well to stay in stock until 2010 considering they ceased production about 25 years ago!

Lampco still have a phenomenal 192 200w SLI lamps left in stock, although earlier posts revealed there was little point buying them unless you were lucky enough to own the correct control gear, and in a surprising turnaround of events, the 60w SLI lamp is now back in stock!

If you want one, you'd better be quick as there are only three left according to their web site. They are about the same price as the 140w SLI lamp (just over £46 for one, excluding VAT, or just under £42 before VAT if you buy two or more).

Hmm, they must have found some more 60W lamps then.. Well there are only 2 of those left and 190 of the 200W type as yours truely has been shopping this morning.   I'll worry about 200w gear later.

190 200W lamps, perhaps Colchester could be persuaded to convert back some of those Alpha 6s for old times sake. ;)

Make that one left.

I bought one of those 200W SLI/H lamps at the end of last year, now on the hunt for some suitable gear to run it. GEC lamp, made in July 1985. The 140W lamps they had were Thorn types, and the first 60W SLI/H I bought last year was a GEC lamp. Shall have to wait and see if these latest ones are still GEC products.

It isn`t an addiction, I can stop any time I want, honest....

And, 200w SLI lamps can be run off a 160W sunbed ballast according to my sources. Should be slightly easier to find than the genuine article...

If anyone ever finds a 160W SLI lamp, I have the proper GEC ballast for that..

Perhaps someone with RAF connections could ask if the derelict bases have runway illumination still present. Lanterns would probably have been smashed by vandals but I suspect ballasts will be intact.

I know they used to use SLI lanterns on the approach to the runway as they were long and very visible from the air.

either that or try and get to an active base, and ask somebody there if their stores dept has any old lights that were taken up and left lying around...

Well my latest lamps to add to the collection are pictured below:

Image

200w and 60w SLI.

The 200w has a date code of April 1951 or 1975 where as the 60w says March 1961 or March 1985. Given that the SLI wasn't around in 1951 and that the packing has the same style of label for both, I suspect it is April 1975 and March 1985 as the real dates.

I haven't powered them up yet, the 60w is no problem as alternative ballasts can be used, the 200w ones will take a bit more leg work and improvisation.

PM not arrived....Hopefully you and mazeteam will get your 140w lamps soon. The planned meet with David last weekend was postponed. Another date has been set for the end of this month. I have the leak gear for David so we will be able to power them all up and check if he has pink or red ones.
