I've just acquired this nice new-old stock Thorn 2ft 40 Watt tube in red.

An usual lamp there, presumably designed for non streetlight purposes!

My latest "vintage lamp" is actually a catalogue from Osram (GEC) dating from September 1956.

The left hand page details the virtues of MBF lamps, whilst the right hand page advertises the new 140W SO/H integral lamps - the forerunners of the SOX lamp.

The rear cover provides data on the lamps. Note the pearl MB/U lamp, now a rarity compared with the more common elliptical MBF lamp of today.

Here I have a lamp from my GEC Z8420 I believe the date to be April 68.

Good day UKASTLE.

I've some delightful beauties to show all you Mercury fans. Found them a few weeks ago on a certain auction site and just had to snap them up. Mid 1980's Wotan 125W HQL-R lamps.

One made in Italy, other made in Germany.

Opening the lid revealed some warnings and a wiring diagram on the Italian made lamp.

However, they're both identical inside.

They work perfectly fine and are very bright.  If they were not quite so rare, i'd use one above the workdesk as a task lamp.

It’s been a while since I purchased any vintage lamps, but I’ve had a few recent additions.

The first is a Philips “PowerWhite” 80w 3 pin BC MBF lamp. The square taped on label shows it is ex MoD stock. The 2007 text printed on the label is not the year of manufacture however, the date code on the lamp is June 1971, so 47 years old. Further confirmation that the lamp is not from 2007 is that “250V” is stated. If the lamp was really from this millennium it would have said 230V.

Once removed from the wrapper, it can be seen that the lamp was Made in Great Brit(ain), further confirming its vintage age.

Another addition is a 2nd Philips 3pin BC MBF lamp, this time manufactured in Belgium and dating from September 1984.

The lamp is very similar in internal construction to the older lamp, and both are much better quality than lamps manufactured at the end of MBF production.
