If you can get your hands on them, what are realy useful are Encapsulite fluorescent tube covers... they're coloured tubes that slide over the fluorescent tube - it means you can use normal white tubes and get a coloured output.

I got a batch from eBay, and still have about 10 2ft ones in green I've yet to use (gonna put some up in the cabin methinks!). The blue ones I have were bought with battens off ebay and collected from Huddersfield - they had been taken out from a shop refit.

And to fit into http://www.wickes.co.uk/Fluorescent-Fitting/invt/162280

Could I ask, mazeteam, how much the sleeves cost you?

Are there any others I should look at?

Cheers

£5.18 for a coloured fluorescent 4 footer...? not bad, not bad at all! You can pay more than that for an ordinary white 4ft fluorescent at Homebase!

My coloured sleeves are for 2ft lamps, and I bought them years ago so can't remember the price!!
But those lamps are a damn good price so I'd go for them. Heck, once I've re-boarded out the cabin I may get two or three of them to light the far long wall where I've got the storage units!

Postage is not good though £7, but if i order all four its still £7, so I think it will be best to order all four together!

I'm tempted to get all four myself then i could then make a large sleeve bowl (like a Little Chef lantern) and have an unusual lantertn illuminating my plants in me garden.

I have a sneaking suspicion that those tubes would look great in a REVO Festival, pink and green one side, then the same [but in different places] on the other side, then they would look like a pair of socks I own! The fair's arcade has yellow and pink tubes [I think] operating which looks quite cool. I'm into the club-style lights and have a strobe light and a siren light myself.  :D Obviously the former goes on when I have a private party... just for myself.   That was a joke.

hah! why do we all like fancy lights on the top of our wardrobes?! that's where mine live too!

The Revo Festival and the Little Chef lanterns take 5ft fluorescent tubes btw... so unless they seel 5ft's then we couldn't use them in a Festival. If they do do 5footers then I think my festival may work its way into my cabin!

I got some authentic 12v Rowe-Ami jukebox neon tubes from 2 wallboxes. I salvaged  them when we scrapped the jukeboxes. I even saved both PSU's too.

I just use standard low wattage CFL's in table lamps connected to a power strip which is wired to the nema socket on one of my beta 5's.
