On the subject of unidentified lanterns, here is another one for you all to have a crack at.

I got the picture a while ago. It is difficult to tell if the subject of the photo is the streetlamp, the house or the lady at the front gate!

Obviously, the aesthetics of the traditional "Windsor"type gas lantern must have been a major influence, for the municipal designer came up with this.

It looks a little like Willey's "Cranford" lamp featured on Mr Cornwell's site, however beyond that I'm stumped. Suggs don't seem to have succumbed to the temptation either! In fact I would suggest it might it might not even be gas fired!

Just to be even more confusing, the lantern actually looks like it either has a glass bowl or a clear GLS lamp. A close up then suggests the outline of a reflector of some kind.

Did ESLA bring out anything like this?

Anyone know what this lantern is? It ran a 35W SOX lamp.

I've just had an update on this lantern and was told it originally ran MBFU but was taken down running 35w SOX. Just for info.

Hi GreatNorburyStDepot,

That's an interesting lantern. Do you know where it originally stood?

Regards,

Andrew.

Hi All,

I was looking through some photographs on my PC and came across a folder with some old pictures in. I'm not too sure who owns the originals! However, the 1st photograph was taken in Botchergate, Carlisle looking towards the town center. The second photograph is taken in the Town center near the Town Hall.

Can anyone identify the lanterns?

Regards,

Andrew.

Looks like they are G.E.C. Z8381 "Three-Eighty" fluorescent lanterns for 3 X 5ft 80w linear fluorescent tubes.

Hi Beta 5,

Yeah I think you are right with the ones in Botchergate, do you know what the ones in the town Center are?

Regards,

Andrew.

Looking at your photo, they may be one of these, on Simon Cornwell's website at BTH SLB 750
