There is also a website for a company who manufactures different vacuum formed bowls for older lanterns.

Well, they don't actually have much stock left, many of the older lanterns they can no longer supply.

GEC Z5954 Z5964 Bowls

I have several brand new, crystal clear, repro-bowls for these GEC lanterns, which are excellent copies of the originals.

£15 each plus postage if anyone wants one.

I also have a few original shallow-bowl Thorn Alpha-9 bowls @ £5 each plus postage.

Claire

I take it that most replacement bowls for the GR series will be polycarbonate (as apposed to arcylic) from the Noughties, as most will have to be vacuumed formed because Eleco sadly no longer exists.

I may be getting a glue gun shortly so that I can sort out my Alpha 1 as the glue that I currently use is some cheap stuff bought from Wilkinsons.

Vacuum formed bowls are usually arcylic, which is also cheaper than polycarb. Arcylic has a lower forming temperature than polycarb and unlike polycarb it doesn't absorb moisture from the air as it cools.

Here is a good website for replacement bowls.

It backs up Phosco152's point that acrylic bowls are cheaper than polycarbonate.

That is actually an old version of Vacuum Former's website - it has now been updated.

I am at the present purchasing various bowls from them. In reality they have very little stock for the older lanterns remaining. There isn't much demand for the older types and the PFIs are rapidly making inroads on the older lanterns.  I have purchased several of their "last ofs" - sorry these are already spoken for. They are also making me up a batch of bowls specially for another lantern type.

Arcylic bowls feel "softer" to the toucher than polycarb ones.
