The Chinese style lantern
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XU9x8G7khv0/S ... 9815-a.jpg
is a type I've also pictured, and this particular design is in Liverpool's China Town.

But I like this one
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XU9x8G7khv0/S ... g_7126.jpg
It looks like an over-emphasised Revo Prefect with tapered glass bowl!

The Rose lanterns are just plain wierd.
And this is quite an impressive cluster

Some very whacky, spaced-out designs there!

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XU9x8G7khv0/SqrIx7QDctI/AAAAAAAAJKo/Jsr9OazcWEI/s400/lyme_regis_street_light.jpg
I think the design on these brackets is meant to be a fossil, not a seashell but I could be wrong!

Aren't these lanterns genuinely old? Although the bowl is different they look a bit like a Simplex MA (thanks to Claire's website).

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XU9x8G7khv0/SqrIm5XKvvI/AAAAAAAAJJ4/GLOmhqMJSqI/s400/casa9.jpg
This made me laugh for some reason! Streetlight in camouflage!

Possibly the most ott column design I've ever seen!

And this is possibly the least energy-efficient design!

The one in London has the same type.

I do think that they could be manufatured over in Hong Kong then shipped over here but without lamp, holder and gear.

I spotted 35 W SOX Victoria/Abbey lanterns (another example here) in Yeovil a few weeks back. I wasn't aware up to then that such lamp option was available for these lanterns - has anyone else seen examples elsewhere?

Whilst I've never seen Abbeys with vertical SOX lamps fitted, there are some in Skipton and in Thirsk which are SOX but cutoff - looks rather strange.

http://goo.gl/maps/yCozn - Skipton... though there are more elsewhere in the town, as I spotted some when cycling back from  Malham Tarn.

Near my house there are Phosco versions of the Windsor/Abbey design which have vertical 35w SOX lamps fitted - maybe one day one of them will be closer than 'near' my house!

Thanks for sharing those examples. I'm rather intrigued by the installation of Abbeys with cut-off SOX - why wouldn't the council have just picked the more conventional SON-T variant? Not that I'm complaining, mind!

Just what type of lantern is this? The design is a little overrated.

That particular one is an Urbis Abbey... but the general design is normally referred to as a "Windsor"

Spotted from the train yesterday, these heritage lanterns on the A243 Brighton Rd at Surbiton Surrey. Makes a change from the "usual".
