Just when you think you've seen it all...!

I suppose it's OK, if you've got that sort of money.
It would seem to me that this classic.lamps was once a collector that has either quit the hobby or is downsizing what must be a remarkeable collection...

It's already over £110 and almost 5 days still to go! Can't wait to see what it goes for. Surely it will set the record for a street lantern on Ebay? (I think that undrilled Alpha One went for just over £100 after postage)]

The Alpha Six ended at £206 plus £18.50 postage - is that a new record?

Congratulations to the proud new owner of a SLI/H Thorn Alpha Six whoever you are - anyone we know?

I know it's SLI... but even the starting bid was way out of my reach! Especially now considering that even the elusive 200w ballasts can now be substitued for the more readily available lamps...

Now Ebay doesn't give full bidder names you can't see who it is who has won. However most of the "serious" collectors already have new Alpha 6s.

serious or just plain damn lucky? if you're in the right place at the right time then you can get the odd suprise... if you're not there then you miss out. As an example, had Stelmer not come along just over a week ago for a depot visit, I'd have missed out on a good things such as solar time clocks...

So true.

Though I do think that in this game, allot also lies on your relationship with the contractors. The serious collectors have built up a relationship over years, if not decades and are able to save some very unique lanterns.

Whereas less serious enthusiasts like me just wait until they fall off the columns. I think if my Alpha Six had a choice, it would have taken itself to the skip after all the years it had done in service!

But a few hours with a sponge and hot water, new wiring, a leak transformer and end caps from Phosco152, and a 140w SLI lamp from LampCo and it now looks almost as good as new!
