I have seen and heard of several occasions where LED lanterns have been replaced with older HID lanterns, so I decided to create a new topic on this subject. Please feel free to share your examples below.

There have been a couple of examples of LED being replaced with SON in Southampton:

Millbrook Road West
Thomas Lewis Way

What makes this bad, is not just that LED is being replaced with HID, but Southampton is a white light city. Sodium had been all-but eradicated from the city's public lighting stock, but then a handful of casual replacements brought high pressure sodium back. In addition to a couple replacing LED, I've also seen replacements to CosmoPolis like this. The Iridiums are also in Hampshire green rather than Southampton black, so it's clearly Enerveo being lazy and just grabbing whatever they have on the shelf. I did see on StreetView though, the Thomas Lewis Way one has now been replaced with an Axia3, which is the first I've seen in the city.

On Deptford Church Road a number of CU Phosco p850s fitted by TFL during the junction’s reconstruction in 2015 were replaced by white light Irdium gen1s by Lewisham PFI in 2017.

Was just going to post about them!

Here’s another example of LED being replaced. West Hill was completely relit with CU Phosco P850s in around 2015, however there have been many spot replacements with seemingly random HPS lanterns in recent years. Most of them appear to be Urbis Sapphire 2s, although Urbis ZX3s, a Philips Iridium and a random CitySoul gen1 have also been used. Just take a look at this! https://maps.app.goo.gl/MFYX5cHeg6kzkVs76?g_st=ic

Must feel weird driving down that same road at night now!

I was actually also going post about West Hill lanterns but you beat me to it.
Also weird that they weren’t replaced when most of the lanterns further south on A3  were replaced to LED.

On Alison’s Road in Aldershot Camp an MOD owned road.
A Schreder Teceo was replaced with a new old stock Holaphane Estilo.
It seem whoever maintains the road had lots of new old stock Estilos as well as Thorn Rivera laying around as lots of old SOX aswell as SON were replaced for Estilos.

Also the column may be removed soon as the road is being rebuilt
due to the fact half of the camp is being turned into housing estate.

On the entrance to Bishop Centre in Taplow
A column that had a Axia 1 installed in 2014 when the centre was opened
Was knocked down by a car in 2018 and had an Iridium gen 1 fitted.
Unfortunately in 2019 the same thing happened and a Holophane S Line was fitted.

Here’s another example from my local area!

On a small slip road just off Ruckholt Road heading towards Marshall Road, some LED Roadway NXTs were installed in 2015 when the slip road was being refurbished. However, in 2016, they were replaced with Urbis Paseo 600s running 90w CosmoPolis lamps.

This TRT Aspect on Winchester Road in Walthamstow was replaced with an Urbis Evolo sometime between March 2018 and March 2019. What's stange is that the Evolo hasn't been replaced ever since!
> March 2018
> March 2019

Sometime between August 2020 and August 2022, this column on Maynard Road was replaced with an EV charging column and an Urbis ZX1 was fitted.
