Yes, they can detect when something is connected over the 1-10vdc terminals. On my box lights, I disconnected the internal PIR sensor so 2 lights could be group switched from a Vent Axia PIR, but had left the 1-10 wires in place. Anyway, the PIR switched both lights on and they were dimmed to the max limit. I then reconnected the L and N input to the integral sensor and left the output going to a blank terminal strip then switched the lights on again... this time they came on dimmed, stayed like that for 5 seconds, then dimmed in to full brightness.

I believe the dimming control voltage used by the LED Iridium is an "industry standard" not only for streetlighting but also for dimming fluorescent fittings used in shops and offices.
