I heard that the Thorn Alpha 8 was sold to WRTL as the MRL8. Can anyone verify this?

You'll have better luck trying to get blood out of a stone!

It is possible but I highly doubt it. They already had an old-school SON lantern in production (MRL 6) and Thorn were still selling the Alpha 8 in Australia till fairly recently, and it was already becoming less popular in the UK by the 90s - so for these reasons I don't think WRTL would have marketed it.

I Think it may have been, but never marketed. One of the Simon's on here might have a better answer.

Now I have a Siemens MRL BW with flat glas and it is made in 8/1990 in Sweden so that's maybe the answer why it is that rare in the UK.

Ah... well, I've never seen a Broadway and so don't know what to be looking for anyway!

Siemens Broadway

They're not a common lantern in the UK, I know I've never seen one in real life. I think the Broadway was intended to be the SGS204 to the MRL6's SGS203 if you get what I mean but never caught on like the Philips lantern did.

There's something similar to the Broadway found on the M62 around Gtr. Manchester but it has a deeper lip near where the 'bowl' is.

Yes, I've seen those, I thought they were flat-glass SGS204s though  :?

I'm not sure myself. I do think Phillips manufactured it but its the code / name that I can't remember - not sure of.
