The Highfield isn't quite complete yet. The bowl has a significant scorch mark on which I just can't seem to get rid of, plus it has a crack/split which does seem to be getting bigger.

Would there be any way of slowing the bowls spliting process, as using the two part adhesive that is normally used could damage the bowl further so a milder version may be required.

As for the scorch mark, I can't think of anything that'll remove it. There is Turps but I am not sure if it'll damage it as that is the only Hatfield bowl you've got unless there is a company somewhere that specialises in Hatfield bowls.

I have been told that if you have a crack creeping down a bowl, If you drill a tiny pilot hole at the end it won't carry on further. Not tried it myself but makes sense in principle...

Yes I have seen this method used on cracked shop windows.

I might have to try that and also use Dichloromethane. This is the last Highfield bowl, I got the very last lantern that still had a bowl, and so whatever I do will require a great deal of care.

As a thought: Dichloromethane attacks the surface of the plastic by melting it and resetting it - would using it on a scorch mark inside the bowl dilute the brown mark with more white plastic around it, or make the mark worse??
