We all know of Little Chef having custom-built lanterns outside their premises, which happen to be 5ft vertical fluorescents.... but I am now wondering if Esso also did something similar.

A while back, I recall a post from sotonsteve (I think) who had been to Thirsk and pictured a vertical 5ft fluorescent lantern which did not look likt the Little Chef types... I can't find that photo but the location is here:

And now there has been a message elsewhere about somebody wondering what a certain lantern was and assuming it was a Little Chef lantern - and that is here:

They look pretty much the same, except for colour. And both are by former Esso petrol stations. Make of that what you will......

I've seen two versions of this lantern, the version pictured for 5ft tubes and a smaller version for 2ft tubes. They can be found at a handful of petrol stations of different brands, as well as pubs, office buildings, and more. I'm not sure what manufacturer made them, but they were not exclusive to one buyer.

Something about them says that Revo could have made them what with them producing the 'Festival'. I say this only because of the designs are very much alike but more basic and smaller.

Actually, a 2ft one does sound familiar - I may have seen one myself but can't remember where. It is certainly a mystery though at the moment....
