Any chance of aquiring one? That's a great photo of it. I like opake bowls with sox. The whole bowl just glows yellow. Very nice!

I do think that Mazeteam has seen one on a very short column somewhere.

There isn't much difference in both designs, however the Hume Atkins type of lanterns look more 'low cost' to me what with it having a very deep opaque 'refractor' rather than a bowl.

Makes me think it would be fragile as a result. I really like those style lanterns. If you could find out where it is I'll investigate saving it. Are there any other types similar? Being rare these day I would like to see them saved, with one in my collection.
According to Simon's site, there was not a SOX version of the Beaufort or was it a conversion?

I know of two Beauforts in York that are still in nightly use, running MBF to light a housing association build. There is also one on a former petrol station in North Yorkshire, on a 7-8ft column. I am keeping a rough eye on that one as the site has been fenced off (the lantern is not within the fenced compound) with a shipping container inside, so I'm wondering if a neighbour has bought the site and is going to build a house on it.

Do keep an eye on it or it may be worth contacting the council to see who owns it and how we go about getting it?
Any chance of some photos?
This is all helping a lot to getting one of these lanterns.
Thanks

There's no photos of the Falks one because of the times I have been going there. The Hume Atkins in Bolton is in the North West regional thread.

Is the Beaufort the open refractor type without a bowl?

There are many bowl versions for the Beaufort, however I don't think that the Hume Atkins had any variation.

There is the Highfield which is a completely different lantern but some of these do not have a bowl, I don't think there is any examples left as these were Liverpool's lantern choice.

The Highfields that don't have bowls left are just because they've fallen off! The 1st generation metal Highfields that ran two GLS lamps had a shallow but wide bowl. The Highfield I have is a 2nd generation one and is the very last one in existence which still had it's teardrop shape bowl still in place.

With lanterns of this type it can be confusing as to which is which, but in most cases these can be told apart by a fairly simple guide:
1 support arm: Revo Hatfield aka 'birmingham',
2 support arms: Liverpool Highfield (possibly made by either Phosco or Revo),
3 support arms, straight top with sealed bowl: Falks Beaufort,
3 support arms with curved top and open ended refractor-bowl: Hume Atkins,
4 support arms: Revo Precinct

No, small bowl.

If possible could this go in the Wiki as it could be of some use in the future.
