I wonder if this is an official Philips retrofit tray? and if so what price they're going for....
I have a geared MA90 (gearless MA50 body size) and so if the tray was a reasonable price I wouldn't mind getting myself one for my own official conversion!

Don't forget the Dutch have short body MA90s fitted with 55W PL-T lamps and short body MA50s fitted with twin 36W PL-T lamps.

My own example of that latter:

So it sounds like the MA60 conversion is very similar to my "MA72" and could well use an existing gear tray that was available in the Netherlands but not previously used in the UK.

Could it have been possible for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to design and manufacture an in-house gear tray, based on the Netherlands version but suited to the UK's power supply?

I very much doubt it. They would have either asked Philips to make a bespoke conversion or Philips would have imported an existing one. Council lighting depts and their contractors now longer make/design "specials" themselves. They don't have the time or the skills. The UK mains voltage is, and has been aligned with that of Europe for ages.

Indeed (although the alignment technically is just numbers based on tolerances of the RMS voltage, actual physical voltage is still 240v which is isn't in europe) - if a council were to have anything custom built they'd hardly do it themselves, it'd more likely go out to AC Ford or Marwoods. AC Ford for example does have an account with Amey, and every now and then the odd 'special' does come in - but it's not any grand numbers as most councils/contractors now just go for off-the-shelf products.
