This is an image from an original vintage colour slide that I was very lucky in acquiring a few years ago. Do share in this Viatron heaven that was Blackpool in 1963.

...Yes, I was around in 1963, and Blackpool was such a magical place for a child back then.

It's also got those great blackpool post-tops in there too.
I just love the curves on the Bus though... nowadays you don't get bus bodies unique to just one area.

Thank you Claire that is a fantastic picture! Those GEC Viatrons on those Stanton 8(?) columns with the finned brackets were once extremely common installations around Blackpool up until the late 70s/early 80s. Many of the columns still exist but they are all sleeved now. The double-bracket one is a real beauty! Many of the sights in that photo were unique to Blackpool, the post-top lanterns, the Viatron installations were fairly unique with this combination, the bus, even the concrete railings you can see to the right. Those particular Viatrons were replaced by Alpha 3s on sleeves in the early 80s although the double-bracket one probably went before that as that junction has been a roundabout ever since I can remember. The installations there now are Stainton highway-hockeysticks with MRL6s, not quite as classy as these beauties though!

Above is another of those installations seen on Rigby Road in Blackpool in 1982, probably one of the last roads that still had these. Ironically it was opposite the bus depot where that PD2 above lived in it's operational days!  :)
