Very interesting to hear. Likely to become one of the last parts of the UK with SOX in that case.

I recall Shropshire making remarks along the lines of having no plans to phase out SOX, so it may still be with us for decades to come, only for it to be announced some time later that they were going to embark on a mass LED upgrade.

Can someone in the area kindly check if the Revo Hyperion A at Kempthorne Avenue (https://goo.gl/maps/8QsccTscfvJCaAGq8) is still there? If so, I wonder if they can try to get the lantern saved for me?

I live in London and I am not in a position to waste hundreds of pounds in rail fares just to check if the lantern is still in place or it is gone.

It might have gone now because of LED replacements taking place in Wolverhampton which are using DW Windsor Kirium Pros.
EDIT: It is still there as of the latest Street View update.

I’m presuming these are Fabrikat, but I’m not sure? Google map images suggest the  original lanterns on these were Philips SGS203s. I think they date from 1996-2001.

Back in June 2009, Sotonsteve and I were making a visit to Derby to meet a fellow collector. We spotted these at a caravan sales site near Sutton Coldfield.

Fast forward to 2023, the frontage has had a revamp and a name change but I can report that they are still there today although the 2nd from the left is missing. GSV shows this was lost some time between 2016 and 2021.

So that's another PFI where additional finance has been sourced to mass replace everything that was mass replaced not all that long ago.

On the A47 Fort Parkway in Birmingham the green Mazda Modula (the slightly more rounded French sibling of the Philips Trafficvision/Massilia) was replaced by ASD Highway Diamonds in 2021/22.

Another SON stronghold is going LED. Walsall council has started LED replacements in April 2022 and is expected to be finished in 2024.

On the council website they have an interactive map of all street lights showing which have and haven’t been replaced yet.  Red/yellow haven’t been replaced, green/yellow have been replaced. Looks like most of side roads are now LED, while most of the main roads are not.

Philips LumiStreet Gen2 are being used.

Sort of middle England but close to the Welsh border, in a village near Leominster, this top entry Mi50 on a Revo bracket has escaped conversion to LED.
