Previously spotted on GSV, but now photographed for "real" are these set of 4 GEC Z8451 fluorescent post top lanterns at a disused service station near Kirkcaldy just off the A92 north of Edinburgh. Apart from one with a taped bowl at its base, they are in excellent condition.

The lanterns run 2ft, 40W tubes. It is not known if they are still in service - the bungalow attached to the garage is occupied and part of the workshops are still in use.

Another enthusiast (not on Ukastle) has been trying to save these for several years with no luck so far.

If someone on here gets the green light to rescue them then excellent. The only problem is that whoever currently owns them might want to keep them if not then we (as a group) will happily have them.

Does anybody actually own the site, half the time these service stations are just left with no sure ownership. Hopefully they can be rescued.

Another enthusiast has already asked the owner about the lanterns, and he is not willing to part with them.

Okay, wouldn't of thought they would of really cared about them to be honest, most people are just bothered about the land.

Maybe the owner likes the lanterns and does have them in use. If it were me living there, I'd have a transponder circuit fitted to the car, so everytime I was nearly home the lights would switch on.
The fact the paint work is not scabby suggests they are looked after.

Maybe the lanterns are still in use, that's why the owner won't let them go.

Yes, they could be used as a part of a security light system or he/she just likes the look of them.

Edinburgh has one of the most strangest lighting systems I have ever seen. It used to have main road concretes in residential areas. Now it mainly consists of ZX3s, Arcs and walll mounted flood lighting.

The owner probably used to work there and probably has an attachment to the garage. Even if they're unused, the fact that they're cared for still suggests an attachment to the building. There's a similar situation on an old derelict camping site, not a million miles from here where the old  groundskeeper still looks after the grass, despite the derelict buildings.
