Bolton MBC seem to be getting on with replacing SOX with LED in the areas that they have said they will convert firtst namely River Tonge, Westhoughton and Heaton.

They have pretty much eradicated 35W SOX  and are working on the bigger stuff.

180W SOX has pretty much gone from Radcliffe Road.

And on the A6 at Westhoughton.

135W Replacement is underway on Crompton Way and Ainsworth Lane - one lantern was replaced having only been re-lamped the week before!

When they did the side-roads they replaced all the SOX or 50W SON, however on the main roads, bigger wattage stuff they are simply replacing the SOX, and leaving the 150W SON stuff (mostly CMS fitted) which gives an unpleasant mixed street scene at night.

Fittings used are Holophane Factor in various sizes.

Hi All,

As we enter into 2016 in Carlisle nearly all 135W and 90W SOX lanterns have gone :( As this year roles on I think all 135, 90w SOX and all 70W SON will have gone. It's also sad to see all post tops are being replaced :( Unfortunately Cumbria is becoming very boring when it comes to street lighting. I can't muster up the same enthusiasm about LED lighting as did about SOX and MBFu :( does any one else feel the same?

Regards,

Andrew.

Yep feel the same here. There's going to be close to 100% white light uniformity in 2 years max in my opinion.

Unfortunately nothing can beat LED. In terms of energy efficiency that is. All other considerations such as light distribution are no longer priorities.

Think we all have a big task on our hands to comprehensively photograph the SOX, SON and fluorescent that's left

Yeah totally agree. What's left should be documented, once it's gone, it's gone!

Regards,

Andrew.

Recently returned from Cumbria where I noticed this.....

It appears to be a B5 with an LED retro fit.

Sadly didnt get chance to examine the output of the lamp at night.

Seems to be a common retrofit up in Cumbria at the moment.

Interesting. I would be interested to hear how that performs at night.

Hi,

The light output from these retrofit LEDs are quite good. They are appearing all over Cumbria. I posted on here a while ago about a top entry Beta 5 with one fitted. Although not as nice as the original SOX light output :-(

I've noticed now that there has been a total stop on all LED installations local to me, large street replacements anyway. Its even got to the point that any remaining street with SOX or anything other than LED has had new lamps fitted, something alien since the beginning of 2015, I don't know if this is exclusive to this area.

Its also worth noting that LEDs themselves have been replaced if they weren't Lumas, all functioning too, so I'm not too sure what is going on near my neck of the woods.

Sad sight today for me to see the Philips MI50 that's been outside my bedroom window for most of my life being replace by a Holophane Factor Small. I would of asked them if I could of had it, but I've nowhere to store it sadly :(
