Please can someone identify this new installation seen in Worsley?:

I haven't seen any installation like this before.

Also, what was its predecessor pictured here:

I'd appreciate it if anyone could identify these!

I just want to tell you that two Urbis Evolos, installed as part of the Oldham/Rochdale PFI located on the A669 here in Chadderton were replaced a few months ago by 5 chevron Holophane V-Maxes.

A sign of things to come, maybe?

I'm thinking where in the UK will SOX still be a stronghold in. I think Stockport still is SOX but not for long.

In terms of Stockport being one of the last bastions of SOX, the title is rapidly slipping away unfortunately.

The LA dispensed with the 135W ratings many years ago, in favour of Cosmops'. Despite this, the area still had a huge installation of 35W and 36 / 55W lanterns, often on the original albeit sleeved concrete columns.

Beta Fives were the most common variety, although MI50s were still found in Bredbury, Romiley and Woodley, being installed in the mid 80's. 90W lanterns were still found in Reddish and other districts too. As well as GR100's, there were also a fair few Alpha 1's.

In recent times though, the whole borough is being relit at a fair pace, with very little left now. Even the Cosmops and SON is going, along with the remaining SOX. Most of the time, the existing columns are being retained, although many of the cast iron stock by 'John Needham and Sons' are being replaced.

The new lanterns are Holophane 'S Line' (warm white) and to be fair, it is nice to see that Stockport will finally be getting a uniform streetlighting installation throughout the borough. The recent years have seen a real 'mish mash' of different lanterns and ad hoc replacements.

In Oldham & Rochdale, the Holophane V-Max is now being used as their replacement lantern, they have been replacing PFI installed Evolos as well as pre PFI lanterns such as Trafficvisions.

Hello! I'd just like to preface this by saying I really don't know all that much about street lighting - all I really know is that I absolutely hate the LEDs that have replaced all the old sodium vapour ones. I was only in my early teens when they started being replaced, but the older ones hold such a sense of nostalgia for me. Anyway, in searching for answers, I thought this may be the best place to ask.

I often go past a street in Stretford which still retains one of the old lights and columns, even after the rest have been replaced. I'd be very interested to know if anyone could help identify it. Thank you!

So in Merseyside Sefton council has started LED replacements in 2021 and by now they have possibly finished or are about to finish.

The lanterns used are Philips LumiStreet gen2 .

But Holophane V-Max are also used.

Knowsley also has started LED replacements in January  2023.

Lanterns used are probably Thorn Isaro Pro as that’s the lantern of choice for casual replacements.
This means another PFI has gone LED not that long after replacement of older streetlights.
Indal Airtrace and Urbis Evolo were the lanterns used for the PFI.
SSE now Enerveo were the company used for the PFI.

Liverpool is still not going fully LED and still SON aswell as
a good bit of SOX. The SOX is being replaced one by one when it fails.
