Have you tried the For Sale / Wanted thread?

Hello - just found this excellent forum!   I have always had a passing interest in street lighting, and I've already picked up a lot by reading through some of the threads.

Recently I've acquired a Phosco P107 post top lantern which was being replaced.  It is in great condition but sadly the glass refractor was broken.  Does anyone know where I can get hold of a spare - I'm guessing it is specific to the lantern and not a standard product?  Any help would be great, the lantern doesn't look quite the same without it!

Welcome to the forum. Your best bet to find a refractor ring would be Ebay, they occasionally pop up on there. The Phosco glass refractor rings are interchangeable between the different types of Phosco post top lantern, but there are also plastic versions available. Make sure you get a Phosco one though. GEC lanterns used similar refractor rings but these are slightly smaller in diameter and their top edge is of a slightly different design. Having said that though, they may well fit your lantern. Some people on here have both GEC and Phosco rings and P107s so would be able to advise. No doubt if other forum members have one spare they will send you a private message to let you know - therefore there really isn't any need for you to repost in the For/Sale wanted thread.

Thanks for the welcome!  I have to admit I'd been so busy looking through the lantern topics that I'd not noticed the For Sale / Wanted thread in the Collections section, so will try there next time.

Thanks for the advice about the refractor rings being interchangeable but to be wary of getting a  GEC one too - exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.  It's all too easy to buy a part for something which looks just right only to find it doesn't fit!

I've been lucky with getting the P107 - the lantern is in good working order and the bowl is in great condition. I've always liked this particular design although was taken aback by how large it was when I finally got my hands on it!  Once I've got it all wired up I will try and take some pics.  Shame I don't have room for a nice concrete column to put it on!  :)

Was just thinking: is it or me or does the P178/179/222 remind you of those old candy lollipops that Swizzels Matlow used to make?

Well to me the Phosco P178, P179 and the P222 certainly do.

Those sweets are still made! To be honest, I thought the same too before now, but I think the GEC Z5680 and larger versions of the same design look more like the sweetsas they have the ridge around the 'equator' of the lanterns' outer edge.

The Grosvenor Hotel in Stockbridge in Hampshire had a fine array of Phosco post tops with another 2 on the other side of the entrance. Even more of note was that the majority had SOX lamps in them and were in nightly use.

Unfortunately in the last week they have all been removed, including their brackets. New brackets with "heritage" lanterns have been installed - fortunately of the less common 6 sided type with polished copper canopies - similar to the Metcraft Wellington/ Urbis Kensington style.

With the launch of their new website, it seems the Phosco P107 has been discontinued, whilst the P707 is only available in the Camino variety. Meanwhile, the P456 sphere is now available with LED.

OK, not post tops, but CU Phosco have expanded their LED range with the P852K, and there are now three sizes of lantern in the P86x series, the P860, P862 and P863.

Hi All,

On a recent trip to Birmingham I went on a Canal Boat ride on one of the canals. Whilst on the boat we went under a number of bridges with 8m Columns on with Phosco P222 lanterns on. I was surprised that these lanterns were used to what I would class as a relatively 'Small' street. Once off the Boat I went in search of these lanterns and found quite a few. Here are some pics.
