There are some Evolos near me on the Wrens Nest estate in Dudley, West Midlands. I do like them, they're very slick and nice looking.

Hi All, I think Urbis/Schreder Evolo has been discontinued as it no longer appears on the Schreder UK website.

Whilst their product range has LED retrofit products available for the ZX1 with no reference to the ZX12, the product must still be compatible as the London Borough of Southwark have been retrofitting their ZX12s (dish bowl) with LED. Not sure what is happening to the ones with the deeper refractor bowls.

How much difference do the deeper refractor bowls make in reality btw, Alex?

The refractor bowl considerably changes the light distribution. Flat/shallow bowls provide a near cut off distribution (flux directed mostly downwards with limited spread in azimuth), deep bowls provide semi cut off (more spread in azimuth), refractor bowls increase further the light spread on the ground and the flux at higher elevations.

Refractor bowls can introduce glare which is why they are seldom used with higher wattage SON lamps. They are more suitable for SON-E rather than SON-T lamps, the point source of the latter, tends to make glare worse.

Refractor bowls can also cause more "nuisance" light spill in residential areas, the greater light at high elevations and the less controlled distribution can result in backspill into bedroom windows.

Schréder has recently launched a new product called the Albany Gen2. It’s basically a modern version of the original Albany, except it also includes a new post-top feature via the “fancy” Lyre bracket, options such as polycarbonate bowls (which can also be equipped with the PMMA diffuser) or flat glass, and it uses the latest LensoFlex®4 optics. The original Albany hasn’t been discontinued, however.

Schreder has released another new LED lantern called the Izylum LT.

Lantern design is certainly going beyond the functional we have previously been accustomed to, to something that severely lacks aesthetic.

Yeah, I’ve lost faith in Schréder now! And this is coming from the same company that made the Furyo and the Evolo. How they could design such a soulless LED lantern is beyond me. Plus, it’s an unnecessary addition to the Izylum range.
